"THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES"
The creation of original musicals is
another pillar of the company. Our first challenge is THE EMPEROR'S NEW
CLOTHES (1964) presented as the first program for Nissay Masterpiece Theatre,
which is the annual project to invite school children to first-class theatre
productions, supported by Nippon Life Insurance Company and Nissay Culture
Foundation (former-Nissay Children's Culture Foundation). As of 2004, more
than 6.2 million children have seen the shows over 41 years. Also, under
the annual charity program sponsored by Federation of all Nissan and General
Workers' Unions (former-Japan Automobile-Workers' Union), we have presented
our original musicals to handicapped children and their caretakers since
1976.
For these charity projects, we have musicalized excellent works with
the first-class creative elements, including direction, designs and choreography.
Actually, some of such original musicals were later re-made for legit productions
like A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM, YUTA AND ENCHANTING FRIENDS and KUROEMON.

"RI KORAN"

"IKOKU-NO-OKA"
|
"SOUTHERN CROSS"
The first legit original musical RI KORAN
was premiered in Tokyo in 1991 to receive good response from the audience of all
generations and various fields. The production was presented in 4 cities in China
to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations
between China and Japan in 1992 and in Singapore in 1997, which attracted much
attention from the press throughout the world. The creation of such original musicals
that are marketable in the world can be described as the ultimate goal of the
company. In 2001, the long-awaited second legit original musical IKOKU NO OKA
premiered in Tokyo with good reputation.
IKOKU-NO-OKA about the after-war internment in Siberia was premiered in 2001. Following RIKORAN and IKOKU-NO-OKA, SOUTHERN CROSS about Japanese innocent soldiers who were accused of B- and C-class war crimes was premiered in 2004.
